Claude Gave Me an Actual Workout Plan (and It's Working)

For a long time, my gym routine looked like this: walk in, scan the floor, and grab whatever machine was open. Leg day? Kind of, if the leg press wasn’t taken. There was no rhyme, no reason, and definitely no intention behind any of it, which meant I was showing up consistently but never actually getting closer to what I wanted: to tone up and start seeing real muscle definition.

The thing is, I had data. I’d been logging every workout in the Hevy app for months. So I exported it and handed it to Claude.

What Claude Actually Did With It

All I gave Claude was the exported Hevy data, my goal of toning up, and two specific preferences: Bulgarian split squats are a hard no for me, and overdoing bicep work was making me look bulkier than I wanted.

That was it. Claude figured out the rest on its own. It read through my history, identified the equipment and exercises I had access to and actually used, and built a structured plan around all of it. For the biceps, instead of loading me up with curls, it swapped in band resistance work, which targets the muscle without adding bulk. For the Bulgarian split squats, they didn’t appear anywhere in the plan, but the muscles they work were still covered: quads and glutes through sumo squats, hamstrings through Romanian deadlifts. So I wasn’t missing out on the work, just doing it in a way that actually works for my body.

What it came back with was a 4-day cycle:

  • Lower A: legs, glutes, core
  • Upper A: chest, back, arms
  • Lower B: legs, glutes, core (different angles and exercises)
  • Upper B: chest, back, arms (same idea, different movements)

Not a single exercise on there was foreign to me. It had used what I was already doing as the foundation and just given it actual structure.

5 Week Check-In

Around the 5 week mark I exported my completed workouts and brought them back to Claude. It spotted patterns I hadn’t noticed: exercises where I’d been consistently going heavier (time to progress the load), and a few I wasn’t logging as often (worth adjusting). Small tweaks, but they made the plan feel like it was evolving with me rather than something static I was just following blindly.

8 Weeks In and Onwards!

I’m past eight weeks and the muscle definition I was after is starting to show up. I’m not changing a thing. Claude took the data I already had and turned it into something that worked for my body, my equipment, and my specific needs, without me having to spell out every detail. The part I didn’t expect to love as much as I do is that this has become an ongoing conversation with Claude rather than something I figured out once and moved on from. I’ll keep checking back in as the weeks go on.
